Dangerous distress flare found on Tory Island

Thankfully, it was made safe by the Army Bomb Disposal Team.

A HAZARDOUS MARINE flare was found on the coast of Tory Island today.

It was made safe by the Army Bomb Disposal Team after it was spotted on the western coastline of the island this morning.

The Defence Forces deployed the Army Bomb Disposal Team in response to a request from The Coast Guard, after they were alerted to a suspect hazardous item discovered by a member of the public.

An Air Corps AW139 Helicopter brought an Army Bomb Disposal Team to the scene. They arrived at 11 am, and the device was made safe by a controlled explosion.

The scene was declared safe at 12.10 pm.
