Elderly woman dies after being hit by truck in Mayo

The incident happened on the Ballinrobe to Castlebar road yesterday afternoon.

AN ELDERLY WOMAN has died after she was hit by a heavy goods vehicle in Co Mayo yesterday afternoon.

The incident happened on the Ballinrobe to Castlebar road at Aughadrina just after 1pm yesterday when the woman pedestrian was hit by the HGV.

The 80-year-old woman was seriously injured and taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar where she was later pronounced dead.

The road was temporarily closed for a forensic collision investigation but has since reopened.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the incident to contact them Castlebar Garda station on 094 903 8200, the Garda Confidential Line ON 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
