Elderly man killed in Mayo house fire

The man in his 80s died at the house near Hollymount.

A MAN IN his 80s has died following a house fire in Mayo last night.

Gardaí attended the scene at Ballymangan, near Hollymount, shortly after midnight. The fire was quickly brought under control by local fire crews.

Emergency services recovered the man from the house and treated him at the scene.

He was pronounced dead a short time later.

No one else was in the house at the time, and it is understood that foul play is not suspected at this time.

The man’s body was removed to the mortuary at Mayo General Hospital and the local Coroner.

The house is currently sealed off and a technical examination will be carried out this morning, gardaí said.
