TWO MEN HAVE been injured in separate incidents in Ballyhaunis, County Mayo.
The men were injured following a funeral in the town this morning, which it is believed they had both attended.
One man sustained injuries on Abbey Street in the town and was taken to Mayo University Hospital, while a short time later a man was attacked in a service station just outside the town.
The first man’s condition is not believed to be life-threatening.
Another incident saw a car rammed by another vehicle.
Gardaí have responded by sending a number of units to the area, which include members of the Armed Response Unit.
Six men have been arrested.

Not too early – Rebreast McDonagh’s funeral was held in the town this weekend – also known as ‘King of the Travellers’. The whole town was in lock down on one of nicest weekends the country has had so far, disgraceful behaviour by all involved in the violence and once again the innocent people living in the town and the business people are the ones to feel the brunt of the disruption being caused (stand off still ongoing) by this group who deserve special status according the the EU.

Where are the UN experts with their reports on the poor travellers. If these were muslim men it would be called a terrorist attack, a town closed down with people locked in shops and children locked in schools its disgusting and it’s not the first time this town has been closed by these savages

Whats the point in having a state funded representative body if they wont represent?yet again the travellers are being let down..they have no voice..no one to interpret and explain their more obscure tribal rituals and practices…no wonder the buffers dont display tolerance and are reserved in their celebration of traveller culture.

Martin Collins will blame, local residents, local publicans, Gardai and few others which clearly don’t respect this “minority” groups culture, and that’s what clearly sparked this whole incident.
Everyone in the area knew they were going to kick off so why was it allowed to happen in front of innocent members of the public? I guess the garda were afraid in case they would offend anyone and be criticized by some unelected leftie in Brussels.

When oh when will the state stop trying to nanny this divisive and troublesome sector of our society ?The laws that apply to the rest of us do not apply to them. For example on the video footage of last week’s eviction in Louth, one could clearly see Northern and British yellow licence plates displayed. I can’t drive a vehicle on the road with these plates ! Why can they? Of course a blind eye is turned to this because of who they are.I can’t just up and go live in a different county. I would not be able to live. How can they even afford to fuel these 4x4s. High time customs et al stepped in and enforce citizenship rules. Something must be done but it won’t. Just more whinging from them and their supporters.
Joe, you should go to Rathkeale on St. stephens Day and you will see at least 3 to 400 4 x4 , hummers porches etc. different country nobody touches them entitlement comes to mind
