McCoy's crisps recalled after plastic found in packets

Four different multipacks of McCoy’s crisps were being voluntarily recalled from shelves.

MULTIPACKS OF MCOY’S crisps have been recalled from shelves after pieces of plastic were found inside a number of packets.

Snacks producer KP Snacks says it has initiated a voluntary recall of four varieties of multipacks after a number of consumers complained about finding small pieces of plastic.

The affected packets have a best before date of 15 June 2013 and a code underneath the best before date of 3066. The recall applies to Classic 6 packs; Classic 15 packs; Cheddar & Onion 6 packs; and Salt & Malt Vinegar 6 packs.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has put details of the recall up on its website and said the move is a precautionary measure.

KP Snacks has said the cause has been identified as a malfunction of one production line at a factory in England. A full investigation is underway.

Any consumers who have purchased packets of the affected products have been advised to return them unopened for a full refund.

It is the second high-profile recall of food in the past fortnight. Nestlé recalled four types of Kit Kat Chunky chocolate bars from shelves in eight countries after complaints that plastic had been found in them.
