In pictures: Michael Jackson's former Las Vegas villa is a place of beauty

The opulence of the villa is fairly staggering.

THE EXTRAVAGANT LAS Vegas villa where Michael Jackson once lived is on sale for $9.5 million (€8.4 million).

The 24,276 square foot enclosed property at 2710 Palomino Lane, which is being sold by Sotheby’s International Realty, has seven bedrooms, a two-storey chapel, and an ornate fountain in the courtyard.

Jackson, who died at his Los Angeles mansion in 2009, lived in this Vegas home with his three children from 2007, according to the home’s listing on the property site Luxury Estate.

Take a tour of the luxury villa below:

2710 Palomino Lane sits behind a large gate within a confined 1.7-acre compound for privacy. When Jackson lived here, he used his personal art gallery in the basement as a private exit to get to his car to avoid paparazzi, according to the listing.

Built in 1952, the home gives away its Spanish Mediterranean style with its colourful walls and dramatic bell tower.

The musician’s guests would arrive in the foyer under an intricate wooden ceiling with a view to the courtyard through arched windows. An ornate fireplace and grand piano add a touch of luxury and set the tone for the rest of the house.

The villa’s Mediterranean theme continues in the kitchen, where bright green tiles flank the oven and stovetop and exposed beams line the ceiling.

Though Jackson has made the villa famous, Sotheby’s credits much of the home’s design to theatre developer Horst Schmidt, who owned the property before Jackson moved in. More recently, the current unnamed owner hired the interior designer Paulina Biggs Sparkuhl to update parts of the inside.

Jackson’s style still lingers though, as in the salon, which the listing says was his favourite room. The salon’s theatrical Murano glass chandelier, stone fireplace – above which, the musician’s portrait hangs – and exposed wooden beams on the ceiling scream opulence.

The most lavish part of the property is undoubtedly the two-storey Medieval Chapel. The space, which seats 74, looks more like a theatre adorned with its crimson drapes, balcony, and chandelier.

The entire second floor of the house houses the “master retreat”. This part of the house even has its own sitting area with a bar, leopard print couches, and fireplace.

This spacious bedroom is one of seven in the villa. It could easily be used as its own studio living space.

Here’s another cosier room in the “master retreat”. The mirrors that Jackson rehearsed his choreography in front of are included in the master bedroom, the listing says.

This bathroom – one of 12 in the villa – looks more like a spa, with a dressing table, three sinks, and a roomy shower.

Outside, a fountain and statue sit at the centre of a cobbled courtyard dotted with palm trees. Though it has a distinctly European style, the villa couldn’t be further from the continent, surrounded by equestrian land.
