Mother detained after police find body of missing toddler
33-year-old Rosdeep Kular is being questioned in connection with the death of three-year-old Mikaeel.
SCOTTISH POLICE SAID today they had found the body of a three-year-old boy who went missing from his bed in Edinburgh, calling off a search involving hundreds of volunteers. His mother is being questioned by police.
Mikaeel Kular, who is of South Asian origin, had last been seen on Wednesday evening at his family’s home to the north of the Scottish capital.
Police launched a major ground, air and sea search while more than 200 volunteers helped comb through woodland and the nearby coastline in a desperate bid to find the little boy.
Early this morning, however, Assistant Chief Constable Malcolm Graham of Police Scotland announced that Mikaeel’s body had been found shortly before midnight on Friday in Fife, to the north of Edinburgh.

The BBC reports that Mikaeel’s mother, 33-year-old Rosdeep Kular has been detained for questioning.
“As a result of enquiries the body of a young child was recovered in Fife just before midnight. We strongly believe this to be the body of Mikaeel,” Graham said.
“A person has been detained in connection with the recovery of the body and members of Mikaeel’s family have been informed of the recovery. Our thoughts and sympathies are with them at this time.
“I would like to thank everyone who has responded to these highly unusual events by assisting with searches and other activities in support of this investigation.”
Absolutely heart breaking news to wake up to, sitting having breakfast with my wee girl of similar age. Just can’t understand it at all. RIP little man
What an evil world.
These stories leave me furious, what’s the money the suspect has previous for this kind of thing +/ served time for it and been released.
Like many people I thought his dad might have taken him, not killed him. I have a 3 year old son myself, on the floor playing as I type. Just cant understand how someone could do this.
@richard. I think people were hoping that it was a custody case and dad had taken him. I was hoping it was him because at least he would be safe and loved. I don’t think people were thinking murder at that stage. I know I wasn’t. Poor little guy :(
Why why why ? What did he do that was so bad that needed his little life terminated ? I’m supposed to be shocked but I’m not because the antics in this world means morals are draining away and this kind of cruelty is thriving in our world. My stomach is churning. RIP little guy.
I’d be more inclined to ask “what’s right with this world”?
Unfortunately, I just knew it wasn’t going to be a happy ending, these type of situations rarely are. I just hope whoever’s responsible gets their comeuppance.
RIP to that poor little pet. Heartbreaking news.
A horrific ending to this but I’d prefer to await more information before we start the trial by comments for the mother. This isn’t just about the mother. There may be complicity with other family members. The child’s body was found in garden grounds by the Aunt’s bungalow. The child’s grandmother is or was a GP in local Fife. There remains a great deal more disclosure to come, like how the child died and if directly by someones hand.
Very sensible comment, Mick Rooney. However, I wonder how much more the mass media are going to tell us about this. It may not be the preferred “Maddie” type of story. Who is going to remember his name in 6 months time, I wonder?
Indeed, Joe. This already looks like a complex case, and in the coming days and weeks will we be discussing the role of UK Social Services and what awareness if any they had about the child and family in the period leading up to this.
The role of Social Services would certainly worthy of attention. I don’t, though, recall journalists reviewing their effectiveness in stopping child murders.
If it was the mother, then no sentence given down to her would ever be good enough. Any parent that kills their own child deserves to swing from a gallows.
why oh why is there any red thumbs on this thread…for gods sake on this thread even the trolls should take a break…heartbreaking…poor little Angel…..lying where no shadows fall xxx
Even if she did panic she left her own little boy in a poxi field for however many days & nights, just dumped him…there is absolutely no excuse for that in my book !!
Double the sentence. One for sealing this child’s fate and one for causing very costly search and rescue operation and wasting every good people’s time. I read on another portal she dated drug gangster that was shot year ago. Surely police checked some background and didn’t buy this story 3 years old child left apartment on its own, they just couldn’t release their suspicion to the press without rock solid evidence. RIP little angel….
The whole British public bought the Madeleine McCann story despite the fact that they left three kids on their own in an apartment with an open door to the street, absence of any evidence of abduction, and the presence of evidence that the parents lied, hid evidence f a relevant sighting, and British dogs found blood and cadaver scent in the apartment.
And there is zero media coverage of the ongoing trial in lisbon, where the mccanns are suing the head of the original police investigation who published a book giving the police view at the time. Mccannfiles.com is worth a look for anyone interested in the curious facts of this case. You can see the police files and witness statements there. Lots of questions.
Poor little boy never was in his bed that night. May he rest in peace, and thoughts for his little twin sister, difficult future ahead for her, and for any siblings of children who die in similar circumstances.
Rip little child. I couldn’t comment on the mother without knowing what happened. Words like abuse, murdered etc.. Being thrown around. We know nothing of the circumstances. Children can have accidents, parents panic etc… Yes following “story that was fed to police regarding him leaving during the night” is disturbing but judgement can’t be given until all is disclosed.
Reminds me of that movie with julieanne Moore. Her son tried help himself to a drink it was bleach she found him dead hid his body out of panic reported him missing. It could well be an accident that happened and god knows what was going on in her mind. No mother could harm their child. Well wishful thinking. So sad my the little angle rest in peace.
What ever about killing him but then to leave his little body outside in the weather, exposed to those elements & the chance of being ravaged by animals, that is one cold heartless monster!!!!!
It’s important to point out that this kind of story is NOT common. It’s thankfully extremely rare. Most kids are loved and are safe. Most people are decent.
We don’t know what happened yet. Why or if his mother caused his death, or what state of mind she had.
Everyone is saying the mother killed him for all we know it could of been an older sibling or he could have injured himself or taking something kids at that age climb have tantrums fall siblings fight i think their is a lot more to meet the eye here no one should jump to conclusion those that cast the first stone and all that who ever is responsible will have to answer and live with it on their conscious. Where is the father in all this? Was she single mum. God love his family what will happen with the children they will probably be put into care and separated they going to need lots of therapy i pray for them all.
So sad! Rip little man! Unfortunately this happens everyday!! Its devastating to think anyone would harm a child. Ive 4 children myself. I cant comprehend it.
Noreen, journal explained to me before that the red thumbs are more likely people clicking on phones and miss the right one because they are small on the phone.
Zozimus your right, mother is been questioned but not charged yet. Also this kind of thing does not happen very often. Btw you can change thumbs on mobile also
Children go missing EVERY DAY! Fact! It may not be common for the mother to be involved but the disappearance of children is certainly not rare. Sick world
Wrong Terri. It’s extremely rare. There are millions of kids in Ireland and more than 99.9% don’t go missing. Kids go missing yes, but almost none of them.
Absolutely sickening I have a 3 year old son and I would do anything to make sure he is safe and well. My worst nightmare is for anything to happen to him he is so precious, how could a mother do that to her little boy? Heartbreaking R.I.P little guy <3
From the start of this i had a feeling there was going to be a bad ending.. Something wasnt right.. But i never expected this.. And there was i feeling sorry for his “distraught mother”…..
i never thought about it will end like this, no more words from me , no more comments from me , no more speculations from me , no more language can describe it, little man we here commented in your safety favor …..sorry
So, it’s looking like it wasn’t a paedophile after all; it may have been the mother? BBC are saying a house belonging to relative of the mother is being searched.
similar story happens at Poland 3 years ago.. the mother at the end admitted he fail down on his head after she been aggressive to him , after she drank and his father heavily , mother transferred to mental institutions later stage …..i hope this will not be the Excuse here
I wonder what would possess a mother to harm her own child. It’s not as even if he was her first and only child he had a twin sister and older siblings.
Poor little child, I new all along it was that mother, people hadnt saw much of the kid since finishing pre school at xmas time, I smelled a rat straight away, poor little child wouldnt never wonder out of there home they would be to scared. A mother is supposed to protect her children from harm, what has the world come to. Rip little guy
God love the poor parents and family. What should we do with the perpetrator? I have been against Capital punishment all my life, but now I’m not so sure.
I really beleive the fella did this should be executed, theres no excuse,
We are to soft on these people,
Im so sorry for this poor family
Something should be done with these evil monsters, its outrageous.
RIP wee man. Your suffering is over. Our thoughts must now be with the poor parents who’s life of tortured anguish has just begun. May they somehow find the strength to go on.
