Check out these amazing photos of the modern home exhibition at the RDS from 1967

By 1967 many homes were connected so there was a strong focus on electrical devices for sale.

PHOTOGRAPHS OF ESB’S modern home exhibition from the 1960s have been revealed as part of a new website from the electricity company.

The archives website has been launched ahead of the company’s 90th anniversary next year.

It’s made up of a collection of photographs and maps that reveal the significant change electricity has made to Irish society.

The home exhibition was launched at the RDS in 1960 with the Irish Farmer’s Journal dubbing it the ‘best ever’ exhibit and ‘one of the most ambitious at the Spring Show’.

Here’s a look at what the perfect Irish home looked like in 1967:

Demonstrators were on hand to explain how to use all the devices.

ESB had launched its Rural Electrification Scheme from 1956 to 1965, by 1967 many homes were connected so there was a strong focus on electrical devices for sale:

Looks identical to what I paid an obscenely over priced amount for 30 years later.

I’m typing this from inside a bedouin tent up a mountainside in the arse end of Kerry. Doesn’t get more hipster than that. And I still think they look like shit.

These were fantasy concepts for the majority in the ’60′s and ’70′s
The reality was a single light bulb giving off heat in the middle of the ceiling.
A 4 ring electric eating cooker and an electric kettle that could boil dry made from copper.

Amazing that ESB didn’t roll out electricity until so late, when you think about it.
