Man charged with impersonating Garda and hijacking jeep from elderly driver

A second man was released.

A 42-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with a carjacking and robbery in Monaghan.

At around 4.45pm yesterday an elderly man was stopped in his jeep at Creeve, near Scotch Corner in Monaghan. A man, impersonating a garda, then proceeded to rob the driver of his wallet and left the scene in the car.

A manhunt was launched by Monaghan gardaí and the jeep was later located in Castleshane. A man in his 50s was arrested.

A second man, aged in his 40s, was also arrested in Castleblaney.

The 42-year-old will now appear before a special sitting of Cavan District Court at 8pm tonight.

The other man was released yesterday evening and a file is being prepared.
