Motorcyclist died in single-vehicle collision in Co Meath

A MOTORCYCLIST HAS died in Co Meath after his vehicle struck a farm animal last night.

The accident happened on the N51 Navan to Athboy road at Clarkes Cross at about 10.15pm.

The 28-year-old male motorcyclist was the sole casualty of the collision in which his vehicle struck a cow. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has been removed to Navan Hospital and a post mortem is expected to be carried out today.

The N51 remains closed in both directions pending a Garda forensic examination. The road is expected to remain closed until lunchtime.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses who may have been on the stretch of road, roughly two miles outside Navan, between 10pm and 10.15pm last night to contact them at Navan Garda Station on 046 9036100, on the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111, or at any Garda Station
