Motorists warned of icy conditions

AA Roadwatch is warning drivers to take care as freezing weather created icy conditions across the country.

MOTORISTS HAVE BEEN warned to take care on the roads this week, with icy conditions and fog reported in various areas.

Met Éireann has reported a cold start to the week, with frosty conditions across much of the country and the risk of icy stretches. Fog is expected to linger for a while on Monday morning.

AA Roadwatch has noted road temperatures are as low as -4°C on the M6 at Tullamore, Co Offaly, -4°C on the M7 at Roscrea in Co Tipperary, -4°C on the N81/Baltinglass Rd in Co Wicklow, -4.5°C on the N2/Monaghan Rd in Co Monaghan and -3.7°C on the N10 Kilkenny Ring Rd in Kilkenny City.

Icy conditions have been reported, in particular, in counties Donegal, Cavan, Mayo, Roscommon, Laois, Kildare, Meath, Offaly and Cork.

High daytime temperatures are expected to reach 3 to 7 degrees today, while tonight will bring temperatures of as low as -3 degrees. Extensive frost is anticipated this evening and throughout the week.
