Motorists warned to take care on icy roads after several collisions

It’s frosty out there again – and TheJournal.ie readers have reported icy conditions on roads around the country.

MOTORISTS HAVE BEEN warned to take care on the roads, as icy conditions played a role in several collisions this morning.

Gardaí issued an alert after a number of minor accidents in the area around Fermoy, Co Cork. The M8 motorway is in a bad condition and there were several small incidents around the Dunkettle roundabout, gardaí said.

Drivers have been asked to slow down and keep their distance from the car ahead.

TheJournal.ie readers have also been keeping an eye on roads around the country. We’ve had reports of icy conditions around:

  • Newbridge, Co Kildare
  • Ennis, Co Clare
  • Roads through Cavan to the M3
  • On secondary roads through Louth, Meath and Monaghan; especially around Clones
  • Around Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim, where a reader said several cars have left the road
  • In Raheen and Dooradoyle, Co Limerick
  • In Limerick city and the motorway nearby
  • Estates around Mullingar, Co Westmeath

AA Roadwatch are reporting black ice on a large number of roads around the country. However, it said main routes in Dublin are currently operating with no problems.

Bus Éireann also warned of delays to Cork-Dublin services earlier today. Buses in west Cork are currently operating with delays.
