Mullingar assault victim, 20, dies from injuries

Andrew Dolan, from Carrick-on-Shannon, was assaulted in the early hours of December 23, and died from his injuries last night.

A 20-YEAR-OLD MAN who was assaulted on a street in Mullingar in the days before Christmas has died from his injuries.

Andrew Dolan, 20, was seriously assaulted on Pearse Street in the centre of the Co Westmeath town at around 2:40am on the morning of December 23.

He had been brought to Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar but was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin in a critical condition, where he had remained until succumbing to his injuries last night.

Gardaí investigating the assault have continued their appeal for witnesses to the event, or for people who may have been in the vicinity of Pearse Street between 2am and 3am on Friday 23 December to come forward.

Three people – two men aged 21 and 20, and a woman aged 19 – were arrested in connection with the incident but were later released without charge. A file is being prepared for the DPP.
