'I really wanted to make the most of our day': Rebecca shares the working mum struggle behind this photo

Rebecca Maybin (musicalmumie) gave us a behind-the-scenes peek at what was going on when she snapped this photo of herself and her son, Will. She is the managing director at the Churchtown School of Music in Dundrum, and was grabbing a little fresh air with Will before heading back to work – and still settling in after maternity leave.

Tell us a bit about this photo. What inspired you to take it?

“It was a beautifully crisp spring afternoon and the sun was shining. Despite us both being tired, I wanted to make the most of our day and get out for a few hours in between work.”

What’s one thing you wouldn’t realise about this photo?

“I was feeling overwhelmed. I had to run into the office for 15 mins before jumping in the car again. At this point, I had been back to work for six months, but was still struggling with the daily juggle. It’s hard running a business with over 30 staff – you feel an enormous sense of responsibility for everyone and then I had a baby added to the mix.

“Luckily, these moments are just that – moments! Along with everything else, like sleepless nights, these things pass.”

Did it take many attempts to get the right shot?

“This was a one hit wonder! Will usually loves taking a selfie with his mummy and with him in the baby carrier it was the perfect opportunity.”
