Move over Hadfield, there's a new astronaut in town

Or, eh, in space… ?

US ASTRONAUT TERRY Virts has learned a lesson or two from Commander Chris Hadfield, everyone’s favourite astronaut.

The NASA spaceman is currently leading Expedition 43 which launched on November 23 and is not due to land until next May.

He has been using the time in space to gather a large Twitter following and provide them with beautiful shots and video footage of earth.

Last week, he even posted a vine which travels from Ireland to the Adriatic Sea and shows a glimpse of the spectacular aurora.

It isn’t the first time he’s mentioned Ireland.

On 9 December, he tweeted a picture of Dublin, London and Paris with a glimpse of “an unbelievable aurora”.

Terry Virts also writes tweets in Russian, loves sunsets and specialises in city snaps. Check this one out of Italy, Sardegna, Corsica, Sicily, and Africa.

Oh, and he makes jokes too.

Despite his more than 5.7 million space miles and 217 orbits of the Earth, Virts can still be surprised and impressed.

He still hasn’t sang us a song though.
