Poll: Should we get a national holiday for the 1916 centenary?

Many other nations have holidays of this kind, so should Ireland?

THE IDEA OF a once-off ‘Republic Day’ is being “seriously considered” by politicians as plans for the the 1916 centenary celebrations are being put together.

Day off

The idea is that a ‘Republic Day’ would be held on Monday 25 April 2016, marking 100 years and a day after the Rising itself.

If there is a real appetite for it, the plan is to put it out for public consultation.

In today’s poll, we want to know if you would approve. Many other nations have holidays of this kind, so should Ireland?
