A MAN HAS died after setting himself on fire in front of horrified neighbours and children yesterday evening in Co Meath.

The incident happened at around 6.20pm in Townparks Estate in Navan.

Neighbours ran to the aid of the 42-year-old and threw buckets of water over him to try and extinguish the flames.

He was taken to Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan where a post-mortem will be carried out later today.

Gardaí told TheJournal.ie that they are treating his death as a “personal tragedy”.
