THE US VIDEO streaming service Netflix has announced it is expanding into the Irish and UK market early next year.
The online subscription company began operating its streaming service in the US in 2007. It has since expanded that service to over 40 countries and has over 25 million subscribers.
Netflix says that over 700 devices, including iPads, PCs, Blu-ray disc players, the Xbox 360, Wii and PS3, can stream from its library of films and TV shows for a monthly payment.
Announcing its latest expansion plans, the company says Irish residents interested in its service can sign up for an email alert which will let them know when it is launching here. It is expecting to introduce the streaming service here in early 2012.
Pricing for the Irish market and supported devices will be announced closer to the launch date.
Netflix first launched over a decade ago, operating a subscription-based DVD mailing service.
