'The tiler hated me for the chevron design': Joanne shares her newly renovated bathroom

‘I visited loads of tile shops for inspiration.’

EACH WEEK, WE ask someone based in Ireland with a passion for interiors to share one photo of their favourite spot in their home.

Joanne McCardle has lived in a three-bed semi-detached home on the outskirts of Dublin with her husband since 2002. Now, they live there with their three sons.

“We love this house as it’s close to schools, shops and three of our family members live in the same estate,” says Joanne. “Although, is that a good or a bad thing?”

This week, Joanne (@inside_the_d_house_) chatted us through her favourite spot: her recently renovated bathroom.

What do you love about this part of your home?

It’s not a huge bathroom, but I love how it turned out as I feel bathrooms are hard to get right. I would like to consider myself to be quite creative. I’m a hairdresser by trade, so I think I’ve a good eye for colour and tones.

I’m forever changing things up at home. I love nothing more than a bit of DIY! My dad was a builder and my husband works in construction, so I’ve picked up tips over the years and have no problem doing some painting or wallpapering.

What’s your favourite object in here and why?

It has to be the chevron tiling on the feature walls. The tiler absolutely hated me, but with plenty of cups of tea to keep him going I got the result I was after. I also love Molton Brown and treat myself by having it in my bathrooms .

What was your inspiration when you were putting this room together?

I visited loads of tile shops to get inspiration, then I went at this project as I normally would; by choosing plain light walls and adding a feature wall. I tend to go with darker flooring and units as I like a room to have depth.

Be honest: how much tidying did you do before taking this photo?

Let’s say I live with four men, so it’s a daily job! But I love faffing with towels and candles when the job is done.

Is there anything in here you’d like to change?

My husband will be thrilled to hear that there’s nothing I’d change in this room – except for it to be a bit bigger!
