4 events for... festival fans on the hunt for something fresh

IF YOU KNOW Ireland’s festival scene like the back of your hand and your summer revolves around more or less the same dates every year, it might be time to check out something new.

From an 80s-themed three-day event to a day (or weekend) out for the whole family, we’ve rounded up four new festivals that are worth a place on your radar…

1. Forever Young

When: 5-7 July

Where: Palmerstown House Estate, Naas, Co Kilddare

Take a trip back in time at Ireland’s first 80s festival, with a huge line-up of acts including The Human League, Marc Almond and Level 42 set to take to the stage. With on-site camping, glamping and shuttle buses available, attendees can let loose at the festival however they like. Prices start at €107 for a one-day ticket.

2. Love Sensation 

When: 17-18 August

Where: The Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin 8

A brand new music and arts festival aimed at the LGBT+ community, Love Sensation sees Lily Allen, Clean Bandit and Kelis among the acts set to take to the stage over the two days. Prices start at €65.70 for a day ticket.

3. Sole Food 

When: 12 October

Where: Jam Park, Airside Retail Park, Swords, Co Dublin

Fond of a fresh pair of kicks? This one’s for you. Ireland’s first sneaker and apparel festival comes to Jam Park this October with vendors, brand displays, games, screenings, talks and more. Early bird tickets cost €5 plus booking fees.

4.  Kaleidoscope

When: 28-30 June

Where: Russborough House, Blessington, Co Wicklow

A brand new three-day family-friendly festival from the organisers of Electric Picnic, Kaleidoscope will feature six stages of Irish and international music, nine stages of spoken word, workshops, a food festival and more. Performers include Bell X1, Imelda May, Tom Odell and The Riptide Movement. Adult tickets for one day start at €54.35.
