Pics, video: New look Prime Time starts on RTÉ One tonight

Claire Byrne and Pat Kenny are recruited to the Prime Time team, joining Miriam O’Callaghan for the now thrice-weekly show.

MIRIAM O’CALLAGHAN, PAT Kenny and Claire Byrne (above, left to right) will front a new look Prime Time programme which gets under way on RTÉ tonight.

Byrne and O’Callaghan front the first edition of the the flagship current affairs programme on RTÉ One at 10.35pm tonight with the latter saying that viewers can look forward to a “gorgeous new set” and “very strong items”.

The Frontline programme, that was previously fronted by Kenny, is now being rolled into the Prime Time format with Kenny joining O’Callaghan and a live studio audience at 9.35pm tomorrow night.

RTÉ’s Managing Director of News and Current Affairs Kevin Bakhurst told the Irish Daily Mirror at the weekend that he envisaged Kenny, who turned 65 last week, doing more current affairs in the future.

The new for Prime Time is being edited by former reporter and presenter Donogh Diamond.

It will also see the return of George Lee, the broadcaster’s former economics editor who has been on the periphery of news and current affairs since he returned to the station after his brief foray into politics in 2009.
