New Zealand woman weds days after being pulled from rubble

Emma Howard was rescued from the wrecked Pyne Gould Corporation building in which an Irishman is believed to be trapped.

A WOMAN WHO WAS RESCUED from the rubble of her office building after Tuesday’s earthquake has gone ahead with her wedding plans today.

Emma Howard had contacted her fiancé Chris Greenslade while she was trapped on Tuesday in the Pyne Gould building.

The New Zealand Herald reports that Greenslade, who helped rescue other people from the ruins, was able to guide search and rescue crews to where Emma was in the building.

It took six hours to rescue Howard, who escaped injury in the earthquake. She told Radio New Zealand that she had been thrown from her chair by the earthquake, and was lucky to escape injury when concrete fell and crushed her desk.

The couple’s family and friends travelled to Christchurch for the wedding ceremony at Burnside today.

Meanwhile, the search continues for the Irishman who is believed to still be trapped inside the Pyne Gould building in Christchurch city centre. JJ O’Connor, 40, from Abbeydorney, Co Kerry, is understood to have been inside the building when the earthquake struck on Tuesday afternoon.
