• Ireland’s homeless figures have hit a record high for the seventh consecutive month, as latest figures from the Department of Housing show that 10,028 adults and 4,401 children were in emergency accommodation in July.
• Doctors have said that people’s health is being put at risk because patients can no longer be referred to the cardiology department at Cavan and Monaghan Hospital.
• A woman in her 80s has died after being struck by a lorry in Co Donegal.
• Roisin Ní Riain has won Ireland’s first medal at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris tonight with a silver medal in the S13 100m backstroke final, but there was disappointment for Ellen Keane as she just missed out on a medal in fourth place in the SB8 100m breaststroke final.
• Amnesty International Ireland today announced that it will make some temporary layoffs due to what it describes as a “temporary cash flow crisis”.
• A memorial fund has been set up to ensure lasting support for the wife and two young children of Irish chef, Shaun Brady, who was shot dead outside his restaurant in Kansas City, Missouri on Wednesday evening.
• Mike Nesbitt will be the new leader of the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) after he was the only declared candidate when nominations closed this afternoon at 4.40pm.
