As the world learned of the attempted assassination of Donald Trump over the weekend, it was quickly greeted by gripping images of the 78-year-old, bloodied but his first raised defiantly, while surrounded by Secret Service bodyguards.

The man who took those photos was Evan Vucci, chief photographer for Associated Press.

Previously, he covered the American invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq and has said that the experience in combat zones made it much easier to focus and get the job done.

“I’ve been in these situations before, that experience does help, trying to stay calm, trying to understand that you have a job to do.”

You can read more about Vucci here.
