13 arrested in major garda operation

Nine people have been arrested as part of a major garda operation into drugs trafficking and organised crime.

THIRTEEN PEOPLE HAVE been arrested in a major garda operation into drugs and organised crime in Ireland, RTÉ reports.

The operation, involving around 300 gardaí, included searches of residences, business premises and other properties at 33 locations across the country.

Gardaí raided 20 premises in Galway as part of Operation Foolscap, the Irish Examiner reports. The operation is an ongoing investigation into organised crime in the west, including drugs and firearms offences, intimidation, extortion, burglaries and robberies.

The 13 arrested, aged between 17 and 61, are being held at stations in Dublin, Cork and Wexford.

The operation has been o-ordinated from Store Street Garda Station, according to RTÉ.
