Gardaí arrest nine in crackdown on Midlands heroin dealing

More arrests are expected as part of the operation.

NINE PEOPLE HAVE been arrested as part of a major garda operation to crack down on the sale and supply of drugs in the Midlands.

Even more arrests are expected in the coming weeks, gardaí say.

The operation to crack down on drug activity in the Midlands, and in particular the sale of heroin, began in January of this year.

It also involved plain clothes gardaí buying the drugs to carry out tests.

The six men and three women arrested are aged between 25 and 36.

Eight of those arrested have been charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act, and all nine have been remained on bail to appear before Athlone District Court next week.
