The 9 at 9 Here’s everything you need to know this morning.

EVERY MORNING, TheJournal.ie brings you the stories you need to know as you wake up.

1. #THIS IS THE END: The final Web Summit to take place in Dublin for the foreseeable future gets underway this morning. As many as 40,000 people are expected to attend the event.

2. #RENT CERTAINTY: While Minister Alan Kelly’s proposals to introduce rent caps appear to be dead in the water, a compromise has been reached, according to the Irish Independent. Landlords may have to justify rent increases and give more notice of evictions.

3 #SINAI CRASH: Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi has said Islamic State’s claims that an affiliate group brought down a Russian airliner are “propaganda”. He believes it’s too early to say what caused the crash.

4. #BEHIND BARS: Yesterday’s announcement of anti-burglary blitz Operation Thor was well received, but there’s something controversial in the small print. According to the Irish Daily Mail, serial offenders could face at most two years in prison under new legislation, sparking criticism that this will not act as a deterrent.

5. #BUBBLE BUBBLE: Warnings on the condition of Ireland’s economy issued by officials in the Central Bank were ignored by senior management, the Banking Inquiry will hear. The Irish Times reports that former governor John Hurley has rejected the allegations, saying warnings of a bubble ‘were not taken lightly’.

6. #SOMETHING FISHY: The State has been accused of “a new low” over the confiscation of a Wexford fisherman’s haul. He caught more fish than this quota allows, and the SFPA later sold the catch themselves.

7. #SOUTH AFRICA: A court will hear arguments this morning for upgrading Oscar Pistorius’s culpable homicide conviction over the death of his girlfriend to murder. Reeva Steenkamp’s mother has told Sky News that he should have spent longer in prison.

8. #ROUGH SLEEPERS: CCTV footage obtained by The Herald reveals how a homeless couple were almost set alight in Dublin last week. A hooded figure is seen running up and tossing a firelighter at the sleeping man and woman.

9. #WEATHER WOES: It’s another foggy morning in many parts of the country and in the United Kingdom, causing more travel headaches.
