1. #DISCREPENCY: An investigation by the Irish Examiner has revealed that 80 fewer infant deaths were recorded internally at Bessborough mother-and-baby home than what was reported to authorities. Concerns were previously raised by the HSE that children were allegedly entered into “clandestine adoption arrangements”.

3. #IBRC: The inquiry into IBRC has yet to contact Siteserv, a key company in the investigation, The Irish Times reports. It was originally due to publish a final report by December, but emergency measures are being considered by government as it is unable to investigate certain transactions.

4. #SELLING UP: Landlord TD Tom Barry is set to sell his entire property portfolio over rent certainty plans, the Irish Daily Mail reports. The Fine Gael deputy fears that the new rules are infringing too much on property rights and could open up a Pandora’s box of new problems.

7. #MYANMAR: Aung San Suu Kyi’s opposition party has said it is set to claim over 70% of seats in Myanmar’s election, a tally that could sweep it to power after decades of military dominance.

8. #UNBAPTISED: Minister for Education Jan O’Sullivan has told The Irish Times that oversubscribed schools should accept pupils based on how close they live to the school rather than their religion.

9. #RIOT:  Detainees set buildings alight and armed themselves with baseball bats in a riot at an Australian immigration facility on Christmas Island, AFP reports, with officials admitting the situation was out of control.
