The 9 at 9 Good morning! Here are nine things you want to know as you start your day.

EACH DAY, TheJournal.ie brings you nine things you should know with your morning cup of coffee.

1. #STABBING: A 31-year-old man was stabbed to death at a house party at Sandfield Mews, Ennis, Co Clare overnight. A 39-year-old man was also found near the scene with stab injuries, which Gardaí believe are not life-threatening.

2. #ALLOWANCES: Party leaders will have their allowances cut in a move proposed by the minister for expenditure. The Irish Times reports that Brendan Howlin is awaiting the reply of the Ceann Comhairle on changes to the system, which paid out nearly €7.5 million in 2011.

3. #LITTLE PRINCE: The royal baby has arrived. The Prince of Cambridge, who has yet to be named, was born at 4.24pm yesterday, weighing 8 lbs., 6 oz. While some of you are trying to avoid it, there’s no escaping it this morning as it’s plastered on the front page of all newspapers, have a look for yourselves.

4. #LOCKED UP: In the second of a three-part series on mental health issues on TheJournal.ie, supported by the Mary Raftery Journalism Fund, our reporter Christina Finn looks at how voluntary patients can be detained without review. The Minister Kathleen Lynch admitted that she could never “absolutely swear that there are not abuses in the system”.

5. #BLOCK PORN: The ISPCC is calling on the government to follow a move by the UK and introduce family-friendly filters that would block online porn to children on the internet, according to RTÉ News.

6. #CRASH: A 22-year-old man was killed in Sligo after he was thrown from the tractor he was driving at Clogher Monasteraden and was struck by the trailer on the back.

7. #BETHANY HOME: The Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter, is expected to make a statement today regarding Bethany Home orphanage in Dublin. The North’s Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness, has called for justice for the survivors and said there needs to be an investigation into what happened at the Protestant-run home.

8. #THUNDERSTRUCK: Instead of ‘bright, sunny and dry’ we can now expect ‘showers, thunder and rain’ for the coming week. The heatwave is well and truly over. We had our fun, right?

9. #LAW AND ORDER: Dennis Farina, the former Chicago cop who turned actor to star as a TV cop on Law & Order, has died. He passed away yesterday after suffering a blood clot in his lung. He was 69.
