Poll: Does Ireland have too many off-licences?

The government could be looking at regulating the market.

THE IRISH INDEPENDENT is reporting this morning that the government wants to give more powers to local authorities to restrict the opening of pubs, clubs and off-licences.

The report says that Justice Minster Frances Fitzgerald is concerned about “an unsustainable proliferation” of off-licences on single streets and tourist areas.

But do you agree with the minister? Is it time we restricted the number of shops that sell alcohol?

Today’s poll, Does Ireland have too many off-licences?

Poll Results:

No (3792)
Probably, but I don't support tighter rules (2534)
Yes, and we need to do something (2425)
I don't know (443)
