Off-duty cops nab thief just minutes after violent shop raid

Unluckily for the thief, the two officers just happened to be passing.

A 20-YEAR-OLD man was detained by the PSNI yesterday afternoon, just minutes after he had carried out a raid at a store in Limavady – after two off-duty officers followed and arrested him.

It happened at around 3pm yesterday, after the young man was involved in a robbery at a shop in the Market Street area of the town.

A woman was knocked over and injured as he made his escape. She was later treated for her injuries in hospital.

“The two off duty police officers happened to be nearby when this incident occurred,” Superintendent John Magill said.

“They followed the man until they made the arrest a short time later.

“I would like to commend them for their actions today and I feel that this is a perfect example of police officers continuing to keep people safe, whether they are on or off duty at the time.”
