Start by talking to your doctor.
Find confidential advice
If you have any concerns about the impact of anabolic steroids on your health, then we strongly advise that you stop using them.
In any case, consider discussing your anabolic steroid use with your doctor. They may be able to discover early side effects from using anabolic steroids, which you have not yet noticed, and they can provide advice on stopping use and accessing addiction services if necessary.
Your local needle exchange scheme will provide syringes and other sterile equipment. They can also offer confidential guidance and advice.
Call the helpline
The HSE Drugs and Alcohol helpline – 1800 459 459 – is open from Monday to Friday between 9:30 am and 5:30 pm. Here, you can talk through your concerns, get information about services in your area and consider the options available to you to improve your situation.
Seek reassurance
Using anabolic steroids can also cause emotional or psychological effects. If you are worried about your mental health, first, talk to your doctor. YourMentalHealth.ie is also a place to learn about mental health in Ireland, and how to support yourself and the people you love.
The #zerogains campaign is brought to you by the HPRA – the Health Products Regulatory Authority.
