What is Abhaile?
Abhaile is the State-funded scheme that helps mortgage holders in arrears to find the best solution and keep them, wherever possible, in their homes. It provides free, confidential, financial and legal advice from independent experts, accessed through MABS.
To date, Abhaile has helped over 14,500 people, from over 11,000 households. It is never too late to seek advice. No matter how bad the situation appears, a positive outcome can be achieved.
An expert financial and/or legal adviser will work with borrowers and their lender to find the best solution for their situation.
Do I qualify for help under the Abhaile scheme?
Yes, if you meet all four of these conditions. You must be:
- In mortgage arrears on your home.
- Insolvent (unable to pay your debts in full as they fall due).
- At risk of losing your home because of your home mortgage arrears.
- Reasonably accommodated. This means that the costs of continuing to live in your home are not disproportionately expensive. This takes into account your reasonable living accommodation needs and those of your dependants, and the costs of alternative accommodation in your case.
If you are in mortgage arrears or fear you are at risk of losing your home, you may be eligible for free face-to-face financial or legal advice under the Abhaile service. For information, call the MABS dedicated helpline on 0761 07 2000 or click the button below.
