The Budget, taxis and everything else happening in Leinster House today

What’s going on in Leinster House today? Well, as you asked…

WHAT’S GOING ON in Leinster House?

Every day the Dáil and Seanad are sitting, TheJournal.ie brings you the most comprehensive guide to what our lawmakers are getting up to in the Houses of the Oireachtas.

So, here is what we can expect to be happening in the Dáil, Seanad and Committee rooms today…

Two things we’ll be keeping an eye on

  • Dáil: Leaders’ Questions – The opposition will get their first real chance to have a go at the Taoiseach about the Budget when he takes questions at 10.30am.
  • Dáil: Budget 2014 – All day TDs will give their views on the measures announced in yesterday’s Budget following the Order of Business . This will continue to lunch before resuming at 2.40pm and going right through until the Dáil adjourns at 9pm.

Everything else that’s happening in the Seanad

  • After the Order of Business at 10.30am senators debate the report stage of the bill to regulate the taxi industry and consider amendments from the Dáil.
  • At 2.30pm, senators discuss the report and final stages of the the bill to dissolve County Enterprise Boards.
  • Then at 4.30pm, a private members’ bill to remove data protection restrictions from the first ever census carried out in the State will be brought before senators by Fianna Fáil’s Labhrás Ó Murchú.
  • At 6.30pm, senators will discuss Matters on the Adjournment.

Everything else that’s happening in the Committees

  • Minister of State Joe Costello will be discussing his recent visit to the Middle East with the Foreign Affairs and Trade Committee in Committee Room 1 at 3.45pm.
  • The Justice, Defence and Equality Committee deals with a number of EU legislative proposals at 9.30am in Committee Room 2 before it goes into private session after lunch.
  • The Public Service Oversight and Petitions Committee, which we hope you read all about last week, meets in Committee Room 3 at 5pm to discuss a number of petitions including perceived discrimination against those convicted of capital murder prior to 1990, a petition about public sector pay cuts legislation, the banning of tobacco in all public areas, and the ending of the carpentry course at Blanchardstown IT.
  • The Transport and Communications Committee meets in Committee Room 4 at 9.30am to discuss the general scheme of the Shannon Aviation Services and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill 2013 with representatives from Shannon Airport Authority, Shannon Chamber, Clare County Council and SIPTU.
