Town centres, hit-and-run and everything else happening in Leinster House today

What’s going on in Leinster House? Well, as you asked…

WHAT’S GOING ON in Leinster House?

Every day the Dáil and Seanad are sitting, TheJournal.ie brings you the most comprehensive guide to what our lawmakers are getting up to in the Houses of the Oireachtas.

So, here is what we can expect to be happening in the Dáil, Seanad and Committee rooms today…

The 2 things happening in Leinster House today

It’s the second of two Friday sittings this month under Dáil reforms. That means there’s not much happening on Kildare Street today except for two pieces of Fianna Fáil legislation:

  • Dáil: Town Centres – It’s been well-documented that some town centres have been ravaged by the economic crisis and recession. So Fianna Fáil’s Local Government Town Centres Bill would mandate each local authority to create a ‘town team’ to implement a revitalisation plan. Debate begins at 10am.
  • Dáil: Hit-and-run – A bill to crack down on hit-and-run driversThe Road Traffic Bill – will make it an indictable offence to leave the scene with a punishment of up to 10 years in prison or a fine of up to €5,000. In a rare outbreak of cross-party cooperation it appears the government will accept these proposals. Debate begins at midday.
  • The Dáil adjourns at 2pm
