One man dead after Cork road crash

Separate crashes in Cork and Westmeath bring the number dead on Irish roads in 2010 to 179.

AN 18-YEAR old man has died following a road collision near Rosscarbery in Co Cork last night.

The crash happened at about 8pm last night around a mile outside the town on the Skibbereen road. The deceased was one of the passengers in the car, and was pronounced dead before he was brought to Cork University Hospital later that night.

Three other people were injured, one of them seriously after a car and a van collided head-on. The N71 Skibbereen road remains closed and diversions are in place while gardaí investigate the scene.

Two others died last night in separate road crashes in Clare and Westmeath, bringing the number who have died on Irish roads so far this year to 179.
