Someone's local ATM is going to busy for a few years yet... MATTHIAS RIETSCHEL/AP

One UK winner of record €185m Euromillions jackpot

TheJournal.ie’s syndicate, and every other Irish ticket, falls short of winning the largest ever European lottery.

ONE LUCKY TICKETHOLDER in the United Kingdom is waking up €185m richer this morning after becoming the largest lottery winner in European history.

The ticket is the only winning entry into last night’s Euromillions draw, which carried a record jackpot following weeks of unclaimed rollover prizes.

The winning numbers were 17, 19, 38, 42 and 45, with the Lucky Stars numbers of 9 and 10 – with the winning ticket overcoming odds of 116,531,800-to-1 in matching all seven of the numbers.

One Irish ticket holder was just one Lucky Star away from sharing the monster payout, but can be consoled with their tax-free lump sum of €2,435,037.

TheJournal.ie‘s ticket scooped us a cool €9. The Milkybars are on us.
