Online tool lets you know where your polling station is

If you’re in Dublin and don’t know where to find your polling booth tomorrow, HitTheRoad.ie has your answer.

A DUBLIN TRAVEL WEBSITE has launched a handy tool for voters within the Dublin constituencies who don’t know where their local polling station is located.

HitTheRoad.ie, a site which calculates the public transport options available to people looking to get from points A to B within the capital, has unveiled an election-friendly microsite with the details of all 255 polling stations in Dublin.

Inputting their own address, users can simply choose the name of their polling station, which they’ll have on their polling card – and the site then automatically figures out the easiest way for voters to get there, whether by public transport or walking.

The site is an initiative of the National Digital Research Centre, who say the site is intended to help potential voters find a simple and accessible way of getting to and from their polling station.

While the site only covers stations within Dublin, its creators believe more voters in Dublin – where they may not be long-term residents – might not be familiar with nearby schools where they’ll be voting – and that the site allows them to use a single site to plan their journeys, as opposed to having to get the details “scattered across multiple sites with outdated interfaces”.

The HitTheRoad.ie project is part of the NDRC’s LaunchPad programme, a three-month entrepreneurial internship targeted for digital start-ups.
