Sixteen people charged with "organised, structured and staged motor accidents"

The 10 men and six women will be in court in Cork today.

SIXTEEN PEOPLE HAVE been charged as part of a major Garda operation investigating motor insurance fraud in Cork.

The sixteen people – ten men and six women, aged between 22 and 60 – will appear before Cork District Court this morning.

Garda units attached to Anglesea Street Station in Cork made the arrests between February and June in 2013, along with local detectives in County Cork as part of Operation Nascar.

Twenty people in total were arrested in the operation, which centred on what gardaí called “organised, structured and staged motor accidents”.
