'I'm honestly obsessed with the artwork over the bed': DIY fan Noreen shares her carefully planned bedroom

It took a while to get this bedroom right – but the results are definitely worth it.

EACH WEEK, WE ask an Irish person with a passion for interiors to share one photo of their favourite spot in their home.

Noreen and her husband moved into their first home together in Cork three years ago, and room by room she’s worked to put a personal touch on the property.

“My style is fairly contemporary, though I’ve been gathering things for years so you could find anything around the place,” she says.

This week, DIY-lover Noreen (@ourhomeobsession) told us all about her favourite place in her home: her bedroom.

What do you love most about this part of your home?

I love how calm and relaxing this room is. I wanted it to feel that way from the very beginning, which is why I chose pale pink walls, light coloured furniture and cosy bed linen. The white lampshades make sure the light is warm and inviting in the evenings.

I’m honestly obsessed with the artwork over our bed. I spent so long scouring the internet and shops trying to find the perfect piece. It was absolutely worth it when I saw those palm leaves. The black frames add the finishing touch.

Talk us through some of the objects in the photo.

I DIY-ed so much in this bedroom. Our lamps were made using vases from Sostrene Grene and our bedside tables were completely bare until I gave them a bit of a makeover. I found the artwork on Etsy. It’s a great website to find unique pieces and get a chance to support smaller artists.

We bought our bed in EZ-Living. We needed to get the shortest bed we could find as our bedroom is quite narrow. Sometimes not having much of a choice can be a good thing as it made for an easy decision! The cushions are from Homestore and More and the bed linen is from Dunnes.

What was your inspiration when you were putting the space together?

I’ve been reading online blogs for a few years now and I’ve gained so much inspiration from them. I love following along as someone improves their house and shares design ideas.

When designing this room, I first decided how I wanted it to feel and then what layout would allow it to function best. Pinterest and Instagram are great for getting ideas, but it’s so easy to get carried away. Does anyone else have a hundred images of pink bedroom walls saved?!

How well does this photo reflect the rest of your home?

When we first moved in, the house was far from my style and I wish I could say this photo reflects the rest of our home, but not yet! This is the second room to be fully redecorated. I’m in the middle of a six week challenge to transform our guest bedroom, which I hope to get finished in time!

Be honest: how much tidying did you do before taking this photo?

I don’t think anyone would put a picture of their home on TheJournal.ie without giving it a proper clean up! So yes, the room was hoovered and dusted to within an inch of its life!

Do you have a spot in your home that you’re particularly proud of? Do you enjoy styling the different rooms in your house?
