4 of a kind: Family homes with gorgeous spaces for outdoor entertaining

Our pick of four homes with great outdoor spaces that are ready to socialise in.

A NICELY SIZED back garden is often a non-negotiable for those who love to entertain regularly. Grassy areas with decking or a patio add great appeal when the sun is out and an added option for those who like to switch things up a bit when they host meals.

This week, we’ve found four homes across the country that take pride in their outdoor spaces.

Wicklow Town, Co Wicklow – €595,000

66 Marlton Demesne is an upgraded family home with an added kitchen extension that brings the overall floor area to 169 m². Two living rooms flank the hallway as you set foot through the front door – the one on the left was originally a garage and could easily make for a fifth bedroom. The first floor is home to the four double bedrooms, one of which is en suite.

The extension to the back has the kitchen that leads to the dining area and then a large sunroom that gives access to the back patio area. Perfect for entertaining, there are three seating options dotted throughout the garden and outdoor lights have also been installed. There’s plenty of parking to the front, which is handy seeing as this home is so central. No doubt who ever buys this home will choose to get some exercise, be it biking or walking.

At 145 m², inside comprises an entrance hall that leads to an open plan kitchen/living area, a separate sitting room and a utility room along with the bedrooms and three bathrooms. The kitchen opens onto a deck for entertaining that looks over the gardens.
The grounds also have a garage that’s home to an office. Surrounded by countryside views but not in total isolation, Dublin is about 45 minutes away.

A bungalow located in the area of Mulgannon outside Wexford town, Barraderragh House has a floor area of 279 m². And if outdoor entertaining is important to you, this home’s biggest selling point has got to be the outdoor pool and deck to the back of the house. Just a twenty minute walk from Wexford town, or a five minute drive, Barraderragh House could easily trick you into thinking you live in the depths of the countryside seeing as it’s set back from the road and accessed via electric gates.
