Over 400,000 cigarettes seized at Dublin Port

Customs officials from the Revenue Commissioners have seized around 77.5 million cigarettes so far this year.

CUSTOMS OFFICERS today seized 410,000 cigarettes from a Northern Ireland-registered commercial vehicle at Dublin Port.

The ‘Regal’ cigarettes have a retail value of €175,000, with a potential loss to the exchequer of €137,000, according to the Revenue Commissioners.

So far this year, Customs officials have seized around 77.5 million cigarettes with a potential retail value of €32.5 million. They have also seized a over €566,300 in cash during searches at a number of entry and exit points such as ports and airports.

Almost €9 million in cash has been seized by Customs since the beginning of 2005.
