Over €30k raised to bring Irish woman's body home after New York shooting

Denise Morgan was killed in an apparent murder-suicide.

OVER €30,000 HAS been raised through GoFundMe to bring the body of Denise Morgan, the 39-year-old originally from Tullyallen in Co. Louth, back to her family.

Denise was found dead over the weekend after being shot in a house in Queens in New York. A 33-year-old man was found dead alongside her with a firearm near his body in what is believed to be a murder-suicide.

The fundraiser calls on the communities of Tullyallen and Drogheda to raise “much needed funds to cover the expensive costs of bringing Denise safely back home to Ireland”.

Repatriation of a body can cost between €2,000 and €20,000, according to Hibernian Funerals’ website.

“By donating to this JustGiving campaign, we can ease the financial burden on Denise’s grieving family,” said the fundraiser organiser, Alan Whyte, whose location is set to England.

“Let us show Denise’s family that they are not alone in their grief and that her impact will forever resonate through the love and support of those that cherished her,” Whyte says.

In 20 hours, the campaign has raised €31,166, almost reaching the target of €34,450.

Denise had lived in New York for a number of years. She is survived by her 9-year-old daughter.
