Custom House Photocall Ireland!

Radical overhaul of Dublin City to be presented to council next week

The plan calls for much less traffic and better walking and cycling links from the Phoenix Park to Poolbeg.

A NEW STUDY by urban designers and planners which calls for a reduction of traffic and parking spaces in Dublin will go before the city’s council next week.

21st Century Liffey, a study undertaken by David Jordan and Fergus Browne sets out a vision of how the city could be radically changed.

The plan calls for the removal of parking spaces along the quays, as well as the creation of civic spaces at O’Connell Bridge and at the Custom House.

The Custom House would be turned into a civic museum.

Jordan and Browne say that “re-conceptualising the city from the perspective of the pedestrian rather than from the perspective of the car is crucial”.

All of the parking spaces along the north quays would be removed and dedicated bike lines installed on both sides of the river. This would go from the Phoenix Park all the way to Poolbeg.

The plan calls or better walking access along the quays, as well as the use of “parklets” at various intervals.
