All non-compliant organisations receiving HSE funding to appear before PAC

“It needs to be done as soon as possible,” says chairman John McGuinness.

THE CHAIRMAN OF the Public Accounts Committee has said that any organisation in receipt of Section 38 HSE funding which is not compliant with government policies on public pay will be called to an Oireachtas hearing in the new year.

John McGuinness told TheJournal.ie that the committee decided at its meeting yesterday to set out a time early next year for representatives to appear.

“It is an urgent matter,” he said. “It needs to be done as soon as possible. But we also need to figure out the scope of the work that needs to be done.”

A new report is due next week on how many agencies are not compliant with government policies on public pay.

In September, 24 organisations returned a status of non-compliance to the HSE but there have already been doubts cast over the 12 which said they were compliant.

Yesterday, Simon Harris called on the St Vincent’s Healthcare Group to answer “serious questions” about its corporate governance and pension funding.

“The HSE audit into Section 38 bodies revealed that St Vincent’s had declared itself compliant, however, a letter sent by St Vincent’s to the HSE outlined that not all staff at the organisation were in line with health sector pay policy,” explained the Wicklow TD.

He said he discovered a number of issues “which need to be urgently addressed” when examining the group’s 2011 accounts.
