Don't know how to make a pancake? We're here to help...

We’ve got you covered.

MAKING PANCAKES IS easy, right?

It’s just water, eggs, flour and … err, milk?

Seeing as today is the only time of the year that anyone attempts this task, we thought we’d give you a short guide on what you need to do.

The basic recipe

Keeping it simple, to make your basic pancake you will need:

  • Plain flour, 100g
  • 2 eggs
  • Semi-skimmed milk, 300ml
  • Sunflower or vegetable oil, 1 tbsp
  • Salt

1. Put the flour, salt, eggs and into a large bowl, mix together adding around one third of the milk.

2. Once all of the ingredients have come together into a paste, continue to whisk while adding the rest of the milk. You should continue to do this until the batter has a smooth and pourable consistency.

3. Thinly coat a frying pan with the oil, and then ladle in the ingredients, rotating the pan to ensure an even spread.

4. Once the underside of the pancake is finished, flip it over and cook the other side.

After all of this, you should be ready to go with your basic pancake.

What about the flashier stuff?

There are a number of different things you can do once you have cooked your pancake to jazz it up a bit.

If you’re into something a bit sweeter, why not add chocolate, peanut butter and banana, as shown in this BBC recipe.

Or this recipe for sweet-cooked apples could be a way to go.

If you’re looking for something a bit more left of field this savory recipe might be a way to go.
