Parents Panel: Readers share what their kids are dressing up as for Halloween this year

Butterflies, cowboys… and one ‘vampire-skeleton-zombie-witch’.

AS PART OF TheJournal.ie’s weekly Family Magazine, we wanted to create a space for parents to share their views. A place where mums and dads could share their experiences, lessons learned, and even mistakes along the way.

Halloween is here, which means witches, goblins, ghouls, mini-Spidermen and tiny Harry Potters will be roaming the streets tonight in search of treats. We asked our panel what their little ones will be wearing this evening.

What are your kids dressing up as for Halloween this year?

Here’s what they had to say…

A vampire-skeleton-zombie-witch: That is what our four year old decided he wanted to be this year… so that’s what he is! If this is anything to go by, we have a few interesting years of costumes ahead of us.

An award-winning butterfly: Our children love Halloween but are not too keen on scary costumes. This year’s school fancy dress day (before the mid-term break) saw the four of them dress as a cowboy, a butterfly, Sherlock Bones (our much-used skeleton costume accessorized with a deerstalker and magnifying glass) and a cat! The butterfly won the ‘best in class’, so that’s news!

A zombie preschooler: Ellie Mae is totally fascinated with anything spooky and scary. I think it comes from her love of the Scooby Doo cartoons which are full of zombies and ghosts. She already has her route planned for trick-or-treating and has her zombie outfit and fake blood all ready to go.
