MOYA SHIELDS IS currently undertaking a part-time Springboard+ course at Dublin Business School (DBS)

Having worked in a yoga studio in Dublin for a number of years, she felt now was the perfect time to dip her toe back into education. A lifelong learner, she wanted to develop personally and professionally and found the perfect environment for that by choosing the QQI accredited level 6 Certificate in Business & Digital Skills, which consists of two evenings a week in DBS, which is conveniently located in Dublin’s city centre.

With two kids, Moya wanted a course that suited her schedule and was easily accessible. “It was about finding something that was going to be manageable without being overwhelming.”

Moya’s choice of course

Moya chose to study the level 6 Certificate in Business & Digital Skills for a mix of wanting to choose something that would help her develop in her professional life, as well as being motivated to “stay in touch with what’s happening” in the digital world, and the Certificate in Business & Digital Skills was the perfect match for that.

Growth is important to me. I’m really happy with where I work but I wanted to feel like I had professional development and growth, so I chose to start learning part-time.”

Benefits of the course

On the course itself, Moya finds it interesting and manageable. Having amassed numerous years of business experience before the course, Moya had a strong grounding in the business fundamentals but still finds herself learning new things.

It’s really interesting because you’re learning things that even though you probably are doing them day-to-day already, you learn the theory behind things like human resources skills and how we communicate in teams and all of these motivational theories.”

Expanding her knowledge of business is not the only benefit that Moya has enjoyed since commencing the course. “It gives you confidence again. The competence of learning follows through into the workplace. You’re keeping up with current trends and it gives you a sense of accomplishment.”
