WHILE LAS VEGAS might be a slightly better destination to head to if you’re planning a party — Dublin leaves the likes of New York and Rio de Janiero in the shade, at least, according to one metric.
The capital’s been named at number six in a list of best value party cities for Eurozone travellers, according to research from accommodation website Hotels.com.
The site’s Hotel Price Index measures prices paid per hotel room rather than advertised rates.

At an average of €88 per room per night, Dublin’s just ahead of Barcelona in seventh place — followed at the lower end of the table by London, New York and Rio.
Bangkok tops the list — with the rest of the top five comprised of Madrid, Vegas, Buenos Aires and Berlin.
Speaking earlier this week, Tourism Minister Leo Varadkar said he hoped to grow the number of tourists heading to Ireland by 4 per cent by the end of the year.
The current focus of the Government is on growing visitors from developing markets, the Minister said.

Big difference between best value party city and best party city – Dublin is definitely not a party city – closing hours are terrible for a start esp for clubs – not great if u want to shake your moneymaker.
Totally agree Anthony
As a Wexford man I go for a night out there 2-3 times a year and love certain places. Great music, entertainment, food & craic of course
Personally i find that utter nonsense. Dublin is a very average city not much difference from say Sheffield of Leeds. As for nicest and most genuine people on the living planet’ on my experience from doing business and working in Dublin all i have found were dimwitted thieves and physiological lie’s from half backed bores with nothen to say except something about foreign sports teams .
Brendan you’re showing the weaknesses of being book smart as opposed to street smart. Exists in theory but anyone familiar with the London night-life will tell you that in practice this seems to mean nothing.
Didn’t it just turn out to be one almighty mess when they introduced it and tried it out? That could be why they switched back voluntarily. Added security costs and staff demanding taxis home as the Tube is closed. Not worth it for keeping a small few customers “happy”. Still completely disagree with compulsory closing times though, as there are in Ireland.
I worked in a pub in London which had a 24 hour licence but still closed at 11 during the week, 1 Friday and Saturday and half 10 on Sundays. Manager just said it wasn’t worth paying staff and security to stay open later. I’ve been to some 24 hour pubs over there and they’re usually fairly dodgy.
What? I lived in London and never had a problem getting a pint after 11. Shoreditch, Camden, Clapham, Soho, Shepherds Bush, you need to look harder! !!
Nah. I live there too for the last number of years. (Currently in clapham)The vast majority close at 11.30 or whatever it is. Of course the occasional one opens late – but the vast majority don’t.
Dublin and most of Ireland is great for a party as your never to far away from some good entertainment. And I’ve traveled the world and I can tell you one thing if your looking for fun in other countries you ain’t gonna find it on every corner.
In 2006 to 2009 when a I lived in Dublin doing shiftwork, Flannerys and coppers would be packed every night. The rest of the town not much going on. Can only imagine what its like these days.
If your partying is interrupted by the thoughts of the gay bar around the corner then do the world a favour; stop being so angry and be out and proud Lifesaver
As a person who works in town I can honestly say the junkie situation is disgraceful! I pass by them as they shoot up, as I go to and from work. And I work ten am to six pm and I still see it daily !!
Yeah, every city has them. But not right slap bang in the centre. Putting the meth clinic just off O’Connell Street was clearly not one of the better ideas in this world. This, combined with the fact that nothing is being done to police the situation, is why it’s spun out of control and has become more visible in Dublin than anywhere else.
Yeah, at night! That’s the thing. In Dublin they’re sitting there in broad daylight – a permanent fixture on a street that is effectively the centrepoint of our entire country.
You can’t police junkies unfortunately Denis. Being em in, charge em and they’re back out loitering around the area where they were arrested. Bring em to court, get bail, back around area where they were arrested. You need to take the sh1t away from this flies. Meth clinic/other junkies decentralised.
You don’t mean like las ramblas in Barcelona how many examples do you want
Do you honestly think they would have methadone centres in housing estates they are all in the centre of cities
Inntalitarian I completely agree with you. I’m certain that the familiarity that I have with Dublin helps but I have never felt unsafe in Dublin. Worked, lived, went to college and spent hundreds of days and nights out and about the City and I really do think that it’s a largely very peaceful city. There are pockets of trouble like you’ll find everywhere but I really think they are few and far between.
i’ve lived in the city for 10 years once, i got that bug Darren, don’t like the place or it’s people in general. some nice folk, but generally the older types. full of wannabes now, one time culchies turned hipsters, know it alls. no thanks.
I’ve heard Vegas is like a ghost town Monday to Thursday which would make things a bit dull if you were there for a week. It might be the place to party on a weekend but other than that, no thanks.
