Man due in court in connection with death of father-of-four Patrick O'Donnell after pub assault

A MAN IN his 20s will appear in court today charged in connection with a fatal incident in a Cork pub on Friday evening.

The man is due to appear at a special sitting of Mallow District Court at 3.30pm this afternoon.

Patrick O’Donnell (36), who lived in the locality, died following the altercation in Willie Andies pub in Mitchelstown on Friday night.

It’s now understood that the preliminary report of a post mortem on O’Donnell’s body has indicated that he died as a result of that assault.

He had collapsed shortly after the assault and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man due to appear in court was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody at Fermoy Garda Station.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact them via their local garda station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
